ANSI is engaged in a project to enhance the practical understanding of standards-driven, public-private partnership (PPP) models and their impact on standards development for critical and emerging technologies. The objective is to gather private-sector feedback to inform the U.S. government’s implementation of the U.S. Government National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology (USG NSSCET), as well as the work of the broader research and standards community.
There is a longstanding recognition in the U.S. that standards are a building block for U.S. innovation, competitiveness, security, and quality of life. This fact has been formally recognized in U.S. law and policy, as well as in the United States Standards Strategy (USSS), and the USG NSSCET. The private-sector-led U.S. standardization system is one of the most wide-reaching, inclusive, and impactful public-private partnerships in our nation’s history. As the USSS and USG NSSCET are implemented, and as partnerships grow, it is important to understand what has worked in the past, what options are on the table, and how to navigate standards development together.
A report outlining the findings from events, literature review and identified PPPs is expected to be published in September.
ANSI will host two stakeholder events in mid-late July to explore the challenges, opportunities, and standards readiness for critical and emerging technologies (CETs). Both discussion-based sessions will explore the use of public-private partnerships (PPPs) to share information and identify priority standards development activities.
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) on July 17, 2024 in Arlington, VA - The AI/ML session will discuss the convergence of AI/ML in the healthcare and manufacturing sectors.
Automated and connected infrastructure July 30, 2024 in Dearborn, MI - The automated and connected infrastructure session will have a focus on transportation including ground vehicles and aircraft.
