Standards Alliance: Phase 1

The Standards Alliance (2013-2021) is a public-private partnership between ANSI and USAID that assists developing countries in effectively implementing their commitments under the World Trade Organization's (WTO’s) Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement. Since 2013, the Standards Alliance has increased understanding of WTO TBT principles, transparency in the development and alteration of technical regulations, and adherence to WTO TBT principles.

The Standards Alliance is currently active in Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Mozambique, Senegal, and Zambia.

Standards Alliance: Phase 2

Launched in 2019, the Standards Alliance Phase 2 (SA2), a public-private partnership between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will build upon the success of Phase 1 to support the capacity of developing countries in the areas of legal and regulatory framework, standards development, conformity assessment procedures, and private sector engagement.

ANSI expects to engage with partners in the Latin America, Africa, Middle East/North Africa, Asia, and the Indo-Pacific regions on both a national and regional level when appropriate.

The SA2 aims to strengthen bilateral partnerships, promote reciprocal trade with the U.S., and foster equal gender representation and responsiveness in the standards field.
